The Deadliest Necessity

The objective for this project was to use visual communication and the design process to bring current light to a staggering fact. The concept was to be related to the viewer through a chosen design methodology and in poster form. The chosen staggering fact was, “a child dies every 8 seconds from contaminated water.” For this design solution, the focus was on what we consider to be our basic needs and rights. After creating icons to symbolize each of these needs, they were place on the page as if they were all flowing down the page; the same way as water would come out of a tap. The water droplets themselves are in colour, whereas the rest of the icons are in a muted grey, making the water drops focal points on the poster. The type is set in the same colour blue, making the striking statement one of the first things that the viewer will be drawn to on the poster.
